Twinkling lights and the fear of falling is all that grapples at Go Rokuro on the thin layer of ice separating him from his fear, as well as from Mihashi Shinya overlooking the death trap he has been lured to through false promises and deceiving comments about grabbing dinner together.
“Come on, Ro, don’t tell me you’re scared?” Skating is like a second nature to Shinya, or so it seems as he glides seamlessly atop the thicket of frozen water, practically walking while Rokuro has not even inched away from the normal comforts of real ground! It isn’t that he is truly terrified, but he fears what will happen should he fall flat on his face, in front of Mihashi Shinya of all people!

“Me, scared? No way.” Go Rokuro spits at the mere idea of his own fear, relinquishing his own devils and chasing away such monstrosities as he takes his first tentative step onto the indoor ice rink.

..Before he slips up and finds himself falling backwards, that is.

“Ah! I told you just to start at the wall, then work your way around, dumbass.” The cackling mumbling of Shinya resonates throughout Rokuro’s eardrums, banging back and forth between the corners of his brain until it rumbles him dry. The Fukurodani wing spiker helps him to his feet effortlessly and skids him with a rebuttal of movement, shoving him until he is plastered to the hand rail along the wall and glass windows of the skating rink.
“Now..just slide forward and hold onto the railing. You’ll get the hang of it, I’m sure.” His smirk says otherwise, doused in a sinful nature of vengeance that Rokuro knows well. It’s the same look he used often in their younger years upon realizing certain things of Go that could be later used as future blackmail. Surely, this memory is also intended for such purpose.
“Come on, you’re doing great, RoGo.” The spitfire pet name elicits the ravaging desire to burn away at Mihashi Shinya with his gaze alone, but his current predicament prevents him from such. More specifically, his attempting to stand on both of his two feet properly without falling is what keeps him from eating away at Shinya for the snide comment.
First is the falling.

Go Rokuro finds himself facing the cool ice more times than he desires to admit. Sliding across the solid, frozen ground is one thing, but falling on said surface irks him to no end which lies on the brink of a certain Hell overlooking vast horizons. “This isn’t going anywhere.” Rokuro does not want to admit defeat- at ice-skating, of all things! -but after having fallen onto his backside more than a few times, it doesn’t seem like a terrible offer. Shinya, however, disapproves of such cowardly thoughts and glides over in a twist of his ankle, falling in-step beside Rokuro. The curved bend of the deep green beanie covering his frostbitten ears falls just an inch above his eyebrows, straightened to a threatening twist, and unveils a tuft of maroon waves spilling from underneath.
“It’s not like you to give up. I thought you hated people to quit so easily.” Deft fingertips sweep past tendrils, pushing back his knit cap into place. The snicker of his words doesn’t fly over Rokuro’s head, even in midst of Shin’s actions. But he’s right.
“‘Tche. Don’t tell me things I already know-”

Then, it’s the flying.

Feather touches turn quicksand in a glass pendulum of chilled daydreams. It’s the ever slightest touch of warm on Rokuro’s face that feels taut and deprived of such warm and humidity in the ice rink. He doesn’t realize it until the last moment that he isn’t falling, he’s just sliding to face Mihashi Shinya rather than gripping tighter onto the wall. His hands are clenched around his- and he’s so warm. Mihashi Shinya must be a self-powered heater, because there is no other way that he could feel so radiant while standing on a giant chunk of ice, pulling Rokuro along with him.
One step at a time, one foot in front of the other gliding across frozen ice never felt so easy when standing beside Shinya, relishing the delights of fearless falling.

“I told you it wouldn’t be so bad, you scaredy-cat.” Off the rink, Go Rokuro still feels as if he’s on a continuous loop beside Mihashi Shinya, albeit he would admit in light humor that he is glad enough to be off of the frozen death trap!
“Thanks chicken-shit.” His remark doesn’t get him very far,  paying no attention to the worn laces of his rental skates still asphyxiating his toes. Shinya seems better off than him, having come prepared with layers of socks to keep his feet safe and warm while on the ice. But it’s not his feet, by obvious measures, that Rokuro is looking at.  “How scared can I possibly be when I know you’ll be there to catch me?”

“Don’t-Don’t say things like that, Go!” Shinya is a grand shade of pink, adorned by an unmentionable carmine he is flushed in, all the way to the very tips of his ears…!
“Why not?” Rokuro pushes,  chaste smirks of the manifest authenticity displayed flashing across his visage in a further attempt of embarrassing the man across from him. “Afraid of falling, Shin?”
“You’re the one who fell,” Mihashi reprimands in a voice that should be condescending, but ends up as sentimental upon looking at Go Rokuro. He knows well enough that he’s more afraid of not being caught.
“Come on, I’ll buy us some coffee. I’m freezing my ass off here!” Early January sentiments never felt so warm in the sight of cold fronts and ice rinks freezing over his toes up until now. Now, it feels as if Spring is simply rejuvenating and the cold does not sting as it used to when skies were grey and days were colder.

"..I thought I said we would get dinner."

Go Rokuro pauses in mid-step, feeling the cool relief of recognition crawl up the nape of his neck. He can no longer tell; is it too warm or is it so cold he is feeling the illusion of warmth from Shinya? He opens his mouth with a mint cloud presenting his words, "We can if you want." He shrugs through the layers of his sweater and jacket, relieving a smirk to the spiker.
He steps closer and the sun bends at his will to lift the warmth kissing Mihashi's cheeks.
"Are you taking me out to dinner, Shin..?" He presses further, caramel gaze soaking up the prey in his immediate vicinity as he lures him into a trap...

Shinya gulps audibly and the ice confidence from the skating rink resurfaces. "I'll pay. You pick the place."
